The article features the origin and development of the Russian land law. The authors reveal the problems of its development in the post-Soviet period, and, in particular, the problems associated with the adoption of the land code in 2001. The article analyzes the current state and the main trends of further development of land law in Russia. The relevance of the research topic is due to the ongoing reformation of the land and civil laws of the Russian Federation. This is evidenced by the adoption of a number of Federal laws that have made significant changes to the country's code of the Russian Federation, the Civil Code of the Russian Federation, as well as other Federal legislative acts. The authors came to a conclusion that currently there is no scientific concept of land legislation improvement, which negatively affects its further development and implementation of the goals and objectives of the state policy for land fund management.
