Representations of circumstances and legal communications both describe the exchange of information about facts between participants. They differ in the nature of the information provided and its impact on legal relations. A representation is an incentive for the recipient to make a decision by providing specific information that takes into account the characteristics of the counterparties, individual aspects of the deal, etc. A legal communication is information that has legal significance for civil and legal relations in dynamics. The author compared the key features of representations and legal communications registered in Articles 431.2 and 165.1 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation. These categories are very similar and demonstrate no substantial controversies; they could be used together but gravitate each to its own specific sphere. They generate legal consequences only together with other elements. Legal communications and representations of circumstances relate to each other as form and content.
